Scott McMickin
With more than 25 years of experience in education—and over two decades as a resident of the Monrovia community—Mr. McMickin brings a unique blend of classroom, school, and district leadership experience, as well as a deep personal commitment to the Sparkman family of schools.
Mr. McMickin joined the Madison County School System in 2003 as a teacher and football coach at Sparkman High School. Over the years, he has served students at both Sparkman High School and Sparkman Ninth Grade School—gaining not only a deep understanding of the Sparkman feeder pattern, but also a true love for the students and families it serves through his years of dedicated service in the classroom and beyond.
In addition to his work as a teacher and coach, Mr. McMickin has held a variety of leadership roles across the district. He served as a Secondary Resource Specialist at the Central Office, followed by assistant principal positions at both Sparkman 9 and Sparkman High.
Most recently, he served as principal of Madison County Virtual Academy, where his leadership and strong instructional focus led to notable academic growth and progress.
Mr. McMickin and his wife Debbie—a Sparkman alumna who has taught English at Sparkman High School for more than 25 years—have raised their three children in the Monrovia community. All three of their children attended Monrovia Middle School.
Now a proud grandfather, he enjoys spending time with his grandkids and cheering on the Alabama Crimson Tide.
As he steps into this new role, Mr. McMickin shared, “It is an honor to serve as principal in the very community I call home. I want only the best for Monrovia Middle School and the entire Sparkman family.”
